Parched Spirits

Are you a poet? Do you have a way with words? Do you want to share your work with others? Parched Spirits will post all submissions, we know there is beauty in your thoughts.

Name: Olivia Harris
Location: Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom

My name is Olivia Harris, I am thirty eight and work as a civil servant in Gloucestershire. I have always loved the beauty of our language, and feel that well-chosen words can be as exquisite as a rare painting, or a lovingly executed sculpture. Poetry has helped heal me, over the last, very difficult and painful years of my life. I feel ready now, to reveal a little more of my true self, and hope that others will share their poetry on this blog too. Email me, or post in the comments Don’t neglect your spirit. Ghost

I saw you yesterday
you passed me in the street, talking to a friend
you didn't see me.

I stopped and turned
watching you walk away
your familiar lope
Those hands

Your face is etched in my mind forever,
despite my efforts to forget
your jawline, hard
your soft mouth
and unreadable eyes.

And with that brief sighting
my heart filled up with pain:
memory of the pain you caused me
and my ever-present longing
to be with you.

Time's healing, undone
I leant against the wall
senses reeling
your voice in my ears
your taste in my mouth
a synaesthetic tide
flooding my body
as each sensory function merged with the next
triggered by the sight
of you walking away from me again
Olivia

You'll never get him back with that bullshit.

Try offering him a blowjob and a juicy, blood-rare steak.

Nigel St. James-Infirmary, you are a foolish and inconsequential fellow.

Name like that, you should get a job reading the news. You'd make a fine anchorman. (silent W )

Dear Olivia

I am poetess in residence at a small landscape architect firm in Highbury, London. I would like to submit some of my work for publication on your site. Would this be alright? I don't want to be too pushy or anything.

How do I go about this?

Oh, Miss Ching, if you would just pop it in a comment that would be lovely. I would be very happy to share your words with my readers.

Steady on Nigel. I know it was a short poem but try and give the lady some encouragement.

"Age verification" is not a poetic subject, Tony. It is horsecrap, is what it is, is all I am saying. And you may quote me on that.

"AIM abuse", indeed.

Oh, a-and furthermore, Maroon, what's with "inconsequential"? Who are you, Prince Fucking Metternich? Wrong! You're a cunt, that's who you are.

You underestimate the power of the medium of poetry Nige:

Rolling seas, violence awaits
Men of inconsequential age
Verification of life's hardships
The evil aim abuse at the good

Unfortunately the arguments next door are messing with my creative powers so I will have to leave it at that.

We aim abuse at everybody, Tony. Don't miss the forest for the trees here. Cunt.

There once was a person from Ealing
Who found that her senses were reeling
She leaned on a wall
And started to bawl
Because time was too slow with its healing.

You are my inspiration, madame.
